Group 4
The districts Act 170 of 2026 groups together, run individually and combined. A grouping is a what-if the Legislature already named — this page runs it.
On September 18, 2026 the Vermont Learning Collaborative, which runs the merger talks for the state, put Vermont's districts into 18 groups instead of the law's 20. 13 districts had asked to move. The guides moved some others too, to keep groups near 2,000 students. The law lets them do this. They have not published the new lists.
We have no report of a district moving in or out of this group. That is not the same as nothing happening. At least 11 of the moves have not been made public, and any of them could be here. Treat this page as the law's group, not as a roster of who will be in the room.
The new groups were a starting point, not a decision: comments were open until September 23, 2026 and the guides aimed to settle them on September 25, 2026. We have not seen a report that they did.
Where this comes from: VTDigger, "School districts assigned to new merger discussion groups", September 18, 2026; Downs Rachlin Martin, "Vermont School Consolidation: Progress Update 09.14.2026", September 14, 2026; Downs Rachlin Martin, "Vermont School Consolidation: Progress Update 09.21.2026", September 21, 2026 — reports about the announcement, not the announcement itself. More on what changed.
None of the 5 districts in this group has a budget document collected, so the merger comparison cannot be run. This is a gap in coverage, not a statement that these districts published nothing.
